SEMA R32: The Garage Active $1 Million GT-R Will Steal Your Attention The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show inspires annual pilgrimages from fans and professional builders alike. MotorBiscuit went to SEMA to check out some road trips this year, but one car soon stole our attention. You don’t get to see a million dollar GT-R a day, but we did just that at this year’s SEMA Custom Car Show. Discover what makes the Garage Active R32 GT-R so special, like its all-dry carbon body and the world’s first HKS RB30 engine.
Is the Garage Active R32 GT-R at SEMA really worth a million dollars?
You read that right. This R32 Nissan GT-R Skyline is worth $1 million. While R32s are now collector cars, this one takes the value of the car and works with it. The Nissan Kazushige Sakamoto’s design, though, is no ordinary Skyline; This is an all dry build with an exceptional engine and out-of-this-world color palette. Don’t blink, though, as it may just change its color.
Salah.

What makes the latest Garage Active GT-R stand out?
The first thing we noticed about the custom R32 design at SEMA is the color scheme that is challenging to perceive in its widebody construction. The Sakamoto-san is a seamless assembly with an arrow-shaped carbon fiber weave. However, fans will quickly notice the eye-changing Midnight Purple III paint that was painstakingly applied to the creation. According to an interview with Sakamoto-san and Kenji Sumino, the process involved eight layers of clear coat, then a unique changing hue, followed by another four to five clear layers.

The result is a stunning R32 GT-R that changes colors with exposure to light. Moreover, Chen quickly points out that the weave of the carbon fiber matches the inner carbon fiber like the grain of a carpet that has been completely deflated. Also, the custom design includes custom central locking wheels designed by Sakamoto-san. It’s a labor of love if we’ve seen one before.
Is the Midnight Purple III GT-R at SEMA the first car with the HKS RB30 engine?
The R32 in Garage Active is not only beautiful and unique; It is the world’s first build with the HKS RB30 engine. The straight engine is boosted by a Garrett source turbo that’s large enough to impersonate a commercial jet engine. Of course, the aftermarket RB30 makes great power. Sakamoto-san says the 930-horsepower monster might look beautiful, but it’s destined to race. “Drag racing for sure,” Somino joked to Larry Chen about the car’s future.

Is this the first all-carbon wide-body R32 made by Garage Active?
This custom dry carbon R32 GT-R Sakamoto-R Sakamoto-san cost about $70,000 to ship to Las Vegas for the SEMA Show honor. The turbocharged carbon car clearly has a special place in his heart.
However, it is not even his first full carbon R32. Garage Active built another carbon GT-R without the cool Midnight Purple III. Both cars are beautiful and brutal, but the one we met at SEMA and the impression of the chameleon are nothing short of amazing.
