I have had the pleasure of driving both the TLX and the C-Class. Here is a real-world comparison between them.
The C-Class is the car of choice if you’re looking for comfort, but we’ll get to that later. Right now, the 2022 Acura TLX is the car I recommend for driving pleasure. The TLX is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine producing 272 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, which is routed through the front wheels — or all four wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission.
It’s a fun engine that hits a redline of 6500 rpm, but the real star of the show is the vehicle’s handling capabilities. As I worked, I shoved her in her stride through tight turns in the valley, feeling like the car was prodding me to move faster. It felt in touch with the car, likely due to the well-designed suspension system.
Behind its 19-inch A-Spec wheels is a matching dual-link front/rear multi-link suspension with capacitive adaptive dampers, which keep the car stable in corners.
The TLX A-Spec is fun to drive as the steering, suspension and power are really well dialed in. The only downside is that its steering can be a bit steeper, but I’d be skittish at this point.

It also has a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with 255 horsepower. The motor feels powerful enough to get the car moving quickly, but it’s not a rocket ship. It doesn’t matter, because Class C is designed so you can experience the spoils of life.
As such, the four-link front/multi-link suspension feels great on the road, even on uneven pavements. Its effortless steering is also comfortable, even at high speeds, making the C-Class easy to drive at all times. In that sense, I wouldn’t call it “sporty,” so if you’re looking for an attractive drive, you won’t find it here.

Speaking of comfort, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class is the vehicle to check out if you are looking for a true luxury car. This doesn’t mean the TLX’s interior isn’t nice; he is. But it has a more elegant and technical look than the Benz. It’s like comparing an Apple Watch to an old Rolex; The C-Class has a retro feel despite its updated design.
However, the C-Class’ seats are more comfortable, the instrument panel and its infotainment screen are more attractive, and the LED interior lights at night are a sight to behold. Although the Acura TLX exudes a sense of technology savvy, the Mercedes C-Class gives you a high-end experience for the money.
Which luxury car should you choose?
If you’re looking for the style and elegance you usually look for when you think of the word “luxury,” the 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is the better choice between these two cars. However, if you’re the type of driver who loves to take the back roads on the weekends but need to get the kids to school during the week, the 2022 Acura TLX will make you smile.
I know she did when I drove her. But the C-Class made me feel even more important when I’m driving it. I recommend a test drive of both to see which one suits you best.
